BRIEF
Odd Culture explores how a continuous interior can accommodate distinct spatial identities without relying on rigid divisions. Designed by Metanoia Designs, the café is conceived as a sequence of changing atmospheres, moving from the openness of the entrance to the collective energy of the communal zone and, finally, the enveloping intimacy of the red lounge.
Rooted in coffee, food and contemporary culture, Odd Culture was envisioned as more than a conventional hospitality space. Its identity extends beyond the act of dining to encompass music, objects, merchandise and community.
Translating this multiplicity into architecture required a departure from the studio’s established inclination towards reduction.Much of Metanoia’s work has explored restraint through material economy, controlled geometries and the removal of non-essential elements. Odd Culture presented a different proposition: to work with abundance, introduce multiple visual references and create an eclectic environment without allowing it to become visually arbitrary. The challenge was not simply to add more, but to establish a coherent architectural language capable of accommodating difference.
